- A Taste of Authentic Belizean Cuisine
Belizean cooking doesn’t get any more authentic than Pearleen’s Restaurant. Formerly known as Coleman’s Café, this beloved eatery in Big Falls Village has been serving home-cooked meals since 1993. What started as a humble operation with just two tables, providing meals for construction crews working on the Big Falls bridge, quickly grew into a full-fledged restaurant due to popular demand. Founded by Tom and Pearleen Coleman, Pearleen’s became a go-to spot for farmers visiting the nearby Rice Mill and travelers passing through on the Southern Highway. With the completion of the highway in 1998, the restaurant expanded its reach, drawing visitors from Placencia and beyond. Though Mr. Tom Coleman sadly passed away in 2019, Ms. Pearleen, along with her two sons, continues to carry on the family legacy, welcoming guests with the same warm hospitality that has made this restaurant an iconic part of Toledo.
Today, Pearleen’s Restaurant is best known for its hearty, traditional Belizean dishes, served mainly at lunchtime. Diners can enjoy favorites such as rice and beans, stewed chicken, stewed beans and rice, fresh fish, tacari, and a variety of locally grown greens like callaloo. Vegetarian options, including the beloved cohune cabbage, are also available. Located within a short drive from major Toledo attractions such as Nim Li Punit, Lubaantún, Uxbenka, and Rio Blanco Falls, Pearleen’s is the perfect place to stop for an authentic Belizean meal before or after your adventure. Whether you’re a local or a traveler, a visit to Pearleen’s Restaurant is a must for a true taste of Toledo!
