Maya Day
March 9th, 13th, 15th, & 22nd
Maya Day is one of the most anticipated cultural events in Toledo, bringing together the Q’eqchi’ and Mopan Maya communities in a vibrant celebration of identity, tradition, and heritage. Hosted by the Tumul K’in Center of Learning, this family-friendly event showcases the richness of Maya culture through food, music, arts and crafts, and cultural performances. It serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of preserving and celebrating the traditions that have been passed down through generations.
The celebration spans several days of exciting activities leading up to the main event on March 22, 2026. Festivities begin with a symbolic torch run from Nim Li Punit to Blue Creek Village, followed by the Maya pageant highlighting Q’eqchi’ and Mopan pride, and the energetic “Lord of the Rainforest” Beach Cruiser. Maya Day itself is a lively gathering filled with cultural displays, traditional cuisine, and community spirit—inviting locals and visitors alike to experience the heart and soul of Toledo’s Maya heritage.
Chocolate Festival 2026
May 9th, 15th, 16th, & 17th
The Chocolate Festival of Belize is an annual celebration of Toledo’s rich culture and its deep-rooted connection to chocolate. Designed to highlight the district’s cacao heritage while fostering sustainable tourism, this festival brings together local farmers, chocolatiers, and artisans for an unforgettable experience.
Each year, the festival offers a variety of exciting events. The 2026 edition officially kicks off on May 9th with the Chocolate Festival launch in Bella Vista Village, followed by an evening of indulgence at the Wine & Chocolate Gala on May 15th. The festivities continue with the Celebrate Chocolate Street Fete on May 16th and conclude with the Cacao Football Cup on May 17th.
Yellow Ginger Festival
August 14th & 15th
The Yellow Ginger Festival is an annual summer celebration of East Indian heritage in Toledo, honoring the cultural traditions and culinary contributions of the East Indian community. At the heart of the festival is turmeric—known locally as yellow ginger—a spice brought to Belize by East Indian ancestors, which flourished in the region’s fertile soils and became a key ingredient in signature dishes like tacari and cohune cabbage. Traditionally, yellow ginger was so abundant that it was freely shared among families and neighbors, symbolizing generosity and community spirit.
This vibrant festival offers visitors an immersive cultural experience, featuring dahl roti-making competitions, cohune cabbage dicing contests, energetic performances by East Indian dance groups, and traditional music. Of course, no celebration would be complete without the rich flavors of East Indian cuisine, with plenty of delicious food available to enjoy. The Yellow Ginger Festival is a unique opportunity to experience the traditions, flavors, and lively spirit of Toledo’s East Indian community.
TIDE Conservation Festival
October 9th, 10th, & 11th
The TIDE Conservation Festival is an annual celebration of environmental stewardship and community spirit in Toledo, typically held in October and hosted by the Toledo Institute for Development and Environment (TIDE). This multi-day event brings together locals and visitors to celebrate Belize’s rich natural heritage through a mix of entertainment, education, and conservation-focused activities.
The festival begins with the elegant TIDE Gala—an unforgettable evening under the stars featuring live entertainment, fresh seafood, and drinks, all in support of conservation efforts. The second day showcases the Youth Conservation Competition, where young Belizeans present innovative projects that contribute to protecting and restoring ecosystems. The festival concludes with the lively TIDE Fish Festival, featuring a fishing tournament in nearby marine reserves, along with popular events like the TIDE Classic Cycling Race and a volleyball tournament. With food, music, and activities for all ages, the TIDE Conservation Festival is a vibrant celebration of conservation and community in southern Belize.
Battle of the Drums 2026 and Belize Garifuna Musical Festival

The Battle of the Drums Competition and Show is an electrifying annual event that celebrates the vibrant drumming traditions of the Garifuna people. Held in Punta Gorda on the Saturday before Garifuna Settlement Day (November 19th), this highly anticipated competition brings together drumming groups from Belize, Guatemala, and Honduras to showcase their musical artistry across five distinct categories of Garifuna drumming. Since its inception in 2006, the event has grown into an international spectacle, drawing enthusiastic crowds from near and far.
Beyond being a thrilling cultural showcase, the Battle of the Drums serves as a major tourist attraction and a driving force for economic activity in Punta Gorda. The event has expanded to include a Garifuna Song Competition, which encourages local musicians to preserve and celebrate their rich musical heritage. Proceeds from the initiative are dedicated to cultural retrieval efforts, ensuring that Garifuna traditions continue to thrive for generations to come.
