- About
Tucked near the village of Santa Cruz in Toledo, Okeb Ha is a breathtaking cave where the Rio Blanco River dramatically disappears underground. This striking geological feature marks the beginning of a subterranean journey, as the river eventually reemerges at Hokeb Ha Cave in Blue Creek. The tour to Okeb Ha takes approximately one hour and includes a guided walk to the cave entrance, where visitors are greeted by the impressive sight of rushing water plunging into the cavernous darkness below. Along the way, guides share insights into the region’s hydrology and cultural significance of the cave within Maya traditions.
Inside the cave, visitors will find a rock shelter and a small, tranquil swimming pool—perfect for cooling off and appreciating the serenity of the underground environment. The shaded interior, combined with the steady sound of flowing water, creates a unique and peaceful atmosphere. Though less frequented than other caves in the district, Okeb Ha is a hidden gem that rewards those seeking off-the-beaten-path adventures with striking natural beauty and a memorable encounter with one of Belize’s underground river systems.
