Lime Caye, a remote 2.5-acre island nestled in the heart of the Sapodilla Cayes Marine Reserve, offers a truly off-the-grid escape for fly fishermen, nature lovers, and adventure seekers alike. Located nearly 46 miles east of Punta Gorda and accessible by a 2.5-hour boat ride, this privately owned island is surrounded by some of the most pristine waters in the Belize Barrier Reef system. With white sand beaches, crystal-clear seas, and abundant marine life, Lime Caye is a quiet paradise where time slows and the modern world fades away.

The island’s origins are rooted in the remarkable story of Thomas Lester Garbutt, a legendary lighthouse keeper who worked on nearby Hunting Caye for over 50 years. Inspired by a promise he made during a chance conversation with a visiting politician, Garbutt made Lime Caye his final home, establishing a humble fish camp that has since become a beloved destination. Today, his legacy lives on through his children, who continue to share their father’s deep connection to the sea by welcoming guests to experience the raw beauty, rich history, and unspoiled charm of Lime Caye.
